Washington, D.C. based BLACK ALLEY has been pushing the art of music to its rhythmic limits for some time now. Determined to create a unique musical elixir, Black Alley has taken the finest ingredients of rock, hip-hop, and go-go to create their own genre-bending sound called “Hood Rock”.

With endorsements from national recording artists such as Raheem DeVaughn and Jill Scott; hip-hop standouts Common, Big KRIT, & Wale; producers Tone P and Chucky Thompson; super engineer Young Guru; and legendary musicians Doug E. Fresh and Sheila E, Black Alley is striving to rock harder and put on for the culture.

In September 2017, BLACK ALLEY won Musicology’s first-ever Paisley Park Battle of the Bands in Minneapolis, MN. The contest, held at the late great estate of Prince, was judged by some of Prince’s former band members who worked closely with the legend. Even before the national recognition that came along with winning the Battle at Paisley Park, Black Alley was, and continues to be, one of the most followed, trend-setting, and sought-after music groups hailing from the nation’s capital.

Black Alley was also hand-selected to perform at the inaugural South By South Lawn Festival (SXSL) held at the White House and spearheaded by former President Barack Obama.

Belcher is an experienced hand at campaign politics and has years of expertise in quantitative and qualitative research, message development, and product and behavioral insight. Founding brilliant corners in 2001, he is considered the vanguard for demographic trends among the emerging younger and browner America. Both the political and corporate world seek his counsel to decipher emerging trends and to develop communication strategies for reaching this coalition redefining the American marketplace. In 2008 and 2012, youth and minority voters over-indexed and changed the face of the electorate helping not only President Obama, but progressive candidates and issues up and down the ballot; indeed in 2012 African American voter turnout surpassed that of whites for the first time in history. Both historic watershed moments that greatly depended on Cornell’s nonconformist contributing work.

Beyond the Numbers: Decoding the 2024 Election Landscape

Muriel Bowser is the seventh elected mayor of Washington, DC. She has a strong record of creating a bold urban policy agenda, making tough decisions in a high stakes environment, and shaping a diverse economy.
Mayor Bowser has served her hometown in elected office since 2004 as Advisory Neighborhood Commissioner (2004-2006), Member of the DC Council (2007-2015) and now Mayor since 2015. On November 8, she became only the second person elected three times as mayor of Washington, DC. She is the first African American woman to be elected to three, four-year terms as mayor of an American city.
Since taking office, Mayor Bowser has boldly reset DC’s global and national competitiveness, sped up affordable housing production, diversified the DC economy, oversaw consistent enrollment growth across the District’s public schools to its highest enrollment since Home Rule, increased satisfaction in city services, refocused our efforts around achieving statehood, and invested in programs and policies that allow more families to live and thrive across the city.
Mayor Bowser is a strong leader and crisis manager with 25 years of management and financial experience balancing budgets, achieving AAA bond ratings, and clean audits. Faced with the health and economic challenge of the century, Mayor Bowser guided Washington, DC through COVID-19, racial and justice protests, pandemic-spawned crime and unemployment increases, and the events of January 6th. She commissioned the first Black Lives Matter public street mural, which established a safe area for police and demonstrators using public art, inspiring dozens of others around the world. She reorganized the government to respond to the multiple threats and led over 200 hours of public press updates and national press briefings. She issued over $2 billion in unemployment, rent and business relief and secured federal reimbursement, and drafted recovery and growth strategies that will return DC to pre-pandemic revenue levels in less than one fiscal year.
Mayor Bowser has played key roles in delivering transformational economic development projects, creating jobs and housing for DC residents—including the Audi Field, the Entertainment and Sports Arena, St. Elizabeths, Walter Reed, McMillan, and The Wharf.
Mayor Bowser has served as a Board Member of the Metropolitan Area Transit Authority, chaired the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments Transportation Planning Board and serves on the Advisory Boards of the U.S. Conference of Mayors and the African American Mayors Association. She is a graduate of the Bloomberg Harvard City Leadership Initiative and of Leadership Greater Washington. She holds a Bachelor of Arts from Chatham University and a Master of Public Policy from the American University.

Dwayne Grady, is a Partner and Wealth Advisor with Prime Capital Investment Advisors in Bethesda, MD. Working with clients in over 32 states, Dwayne is responsible for providing knowledge in a variety of wealth management areas to clients. He meets with clients to understand their financial goals and concerns, and creates tailored plans to help them gain financial control. Specializing in working with individuals in transition (retirement, divorce), Dwayne applies his expertise to solve complicated problems.
Prior to joining Prime Capital Investment Advisors, Dwayne was Co-Head of Office with Goldman Sachs Personal Financial Management.

Michael C. Hyter is President and CEO of The Executive Leadership Council (ELC), the preeminent membership organization for Black CEOs, board directors, and the most senior Black executives at Fortune 1000, Global 500 and equivalent companies. He leads the organization’s efforts to increase the number of global Black executives in C-Suites, on corporate boards, and in global enterprises.

An accomplished senior executive, leadership consultant, author and thought leader, Hyter is widely known for his success in developing enterprise leaders and their next generation successors. For more than 25 years, Hyter has served as a trusted advisor to senior leaders in a variety of industries. He brings a wealth of leadership experience to The ELC in the areas of CEO succession, chief executive and executive to leadership development, and strategic Diversity and Inclusion consulting.

Member Milestone Recognition

Derrick Johnson serves as President and CEO of the NAACP, a title he has held since October of 2017. President Johnson formerly served as vice chairman of the NAACP National Board of Directors, as well as state president for the Mississippi State Conference NAACP. A longstanding member and leader of the NAACP, Mr. Johnson has helped guide the Association through a period of re-envisioning and reinvigoration.

Under President Johnson's leadership, the NAACP has undertaken such efforts as the 2018 "Log Out" Facebook Campaign, pressuring Facebook after reports of Russian hackers targeting African Americans, the Jamestown to Jamestown Partnership, marking the 400th year enslaved Africans first touched the shores of America, and the 2020 We are Done Dying Campaign, exposing the inequities embedded into the American healthcare system and the country at large.

As the Biden Administration took office in 2021, President Johnson led the charge in calling for a Cabinet-level position focused squarely on advancing our nation's longstanding issue of racial justice. President Biden signed an Executive Order establishing an interagency effort to eliminate systemic racial barriers and ensuring federal policies are rooted in equity, optimizing the well-being of all in public policies.

As the Executive Vice President and Chief Administrative Officer for Nationwide, Gale King enjoyed a distinguished career with responsibility for a wide range of initiatives. She led the company’s Human Resources, Corporate Real Estate, Corporate Security and Aviation departments. In this role, Gale is responsible for developing the strategies that focus on recruiting, retaining and engaging the more than 33,000 diverse and talented associates who help the company deliver on its promise to protect what matters most to their members. Reporting directly to the CEO, she and her team also have responsibility for ensuring the company continues to build on and carry forward the unique culture that makes Nationwide an award-winning great place to work. Gale is active in the community locally and nationally and serves on the board of directors for the National Urban League, the University of Florida Foundation, the Columbus Museum of Art, and the Executive Leadership Council.

Lisa McCurdy is passionate about helping her clients achieve true generational, legacy planning. She has significant, personal fiduciary experience as trustee, trust protector and guardian is uniquely capable of assisting clients with their future plans for care and asset management. She has considerable personal business experience and is aware of the ever-pressing day to day business issues that must be balanced with planning for the future. Further, her team partners with a team of Financial Management, Insurance, Tax Planning, and Valuation professionals to help people protect themselves, their families and their legacy.

During Rotary Year 2018-2019, Ms. McCurdy served as the first African-American and fifth female President of the Rotary Club of Washington, D.C. She also serves in various leadership roles within several other philanthropic and community organizations.

Ms. McCurdy is a graduate of the Georgetown University Law Center and the University of the District of Columbia. While at Georgetown University Law Center (GULC), she was published and edited articles submitted by law professors and practicing tax counsel in her position as Lead Articles Editor of The Tax Lawyer, a collaboration between GULC and the American Bar Association.

She lives in Washington, D.C. with her husband, Raymond. and Heracles the Wonderdog. Their son, Robert, lives in New York City.

She is currently pursuing a Doctorate of Business Administration at Concordia University Chicago, she integrate academic insight into our strategies. Her expertise in journey mapping and her background in public administration from Rutgers University, coupled with a sociology foundation from Morgan State University, drives her approach to creating impactful case statements and presentations. At the helm of The Outcomes Architect, she champions transformational change, leveraging her competencies to architect outcomes that resonate and advance the missions of our clients and partners

Symone Sanders Townsend is an author, seasoned democratic strategist and co-host of MSNBC’s The Weekend.

Symone rose to prominence in 2016 as the national press secretary for U.S. Senator Bernie Sanders’s then-presidential campaign. At 25, she became the youngest presidential press secretary on record and was named to Rolling Stone Magazine’s list of 16 young Americans shaping the 2016 election. At 29, she published her first book, No, You Shut Up: Speaking Truth to Power and Reclaiming America and served as a senior advisor for President Joe Biden's 2020 presidential campaign. At 31, Symone was appointed as a senior member of the Biden-Harris administration serving as Deputy Assistant to the President and Senior Advisor and Chief Spokesperson to Vice President Kamala Harris. With her White House appointment, Symone became the first Black woman to serve as a spokesperson to a Vice President. In 2022, she joined MSNBC to host “SYMONE” providing essential context on the most pressing issues facing Americans today.

Now, Symone brings the depth of her experience to The Weekend where she and her co-hosts serve as the go-to source for viewers on headlines of the day.

A communicator with a passion for problem solving and social justice, Symone served as the national chair of the Coalition of Juvenile Justice Emerging Leaders Committee and a member of the Federal Advisory Committee on Juvenile Justice before joining Senator Sanders’s campaign. There, she worked to raise the profile of young voices in the fight for juvenile justice reform and brought millennial perspectives to policy conversations. Prior to joining the Biden-Harris administration, Symone owned her own consulting firm where she helped clients find sound solutions to tough political and social problems.

She is a former political commentator for CNN and resident fellow of both Harvard's Institute of Politics at the Kennedy School and the University of Southern California's Center for the Political Future. Symone holds an honorary Doctorate of Humane Letters from American University. In 2024, she received Black Enterprise’s Luminary Award at the Women of Power Summit.

She is a proud member of the Links Incorporated and a native of North Omaha, Nebraska. Symone currently resides in Washington D.C. with her husband, Shawn Townsend.

Beyond the Numbers: Decoding the 2024 Election Landscape

Dawn Michelle Staley , is an American basketball Hall of Fame player and coach who is currently the head coach for the reigning champion South Carolina Gamecocks women's team. Staley won three Olympic gold medals with Team USA as a player and later was head coach of another U.S. gold-medal winning team. Staley was elected to carry the United States flag at the opening ceremony of the 2004 Summer Olympics. After playing point guard for the University of Virginia under Debbie Ryan, and winning the gold medal at the 1996 Summer Olympics, she played professionally in the American Basketball League and WNBA. In 2011, fans named Staley one of the top 15 players in WNBA history. Staley was inducted into the Women's Basketball Hall of Fame in 2012. She was elected to the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 2013.

While a WNBA player, she started coaching the Temple University Owls women's basketball team in 2000. In eight years at Temple, she led the program to six NCAA tournaments, three regular-season conference championships, and four conference tournament titles.

On May 7, 2008, she was named head coach for women's basketball at the University of South Carolina. Staley built South Carolina's program from the ground up. In her first six seasons as head coach, she improved their record every year, winning the SEC in 2013–14. In late 2014, her team achieved the program's first #1 ranking, making her only the second individual to both play on and coach a #1-ranked team. Staley has led South Carolina to eight SEC regular season championships, eight SEC tournament championships, eight Sweet Sixteens, five Final Fours, and three NCAA women's basketball national championships.

Samantha is the first-ever Chief Executive Officer of the Black Economic Alliance (BEA), a coalition of business leaders and aligned advocates committed to economic progress and prosperity in the Black community with a specific focus on work, wages, and wealth. Previously, she served as the inaugural President of the BEA Foundation — leading the organization’s efforts to produce cutting-edge research, practical solutions, and programming to create better access to good-paying jobs, livable wages, and wealth creation for Black people.

Before joining BEA, Samantha was the first Chief Partnerships and Impact Officer at the Robin Hood Foundation, one of the nation’s largest anti-poverty organizations. She developed and directed the Power Fund to invest in nonprofit leaders of color and the High-Quality Schools Fund to support innovative school models for New York City’s most under-resourced communities. She also was instrumental in creating the NinetyToZero partnership among America’s leading companies and organizations to combat the racial wealth gap through increased investment in Black talent and Black businesses.

Samantha brings a unique mix of on-the-ground and executive experience to her leadership. She served as the first Chief Advancement Officer at Uncommon Schools, a network of public charter schools serving historically disadvantaged students of color who go on to graduate from four-year colleges at higher rates than students from the wealthiest American households. She also founded and directed an elementary school that won the National Blue Ribbon School Award for its success in closing racial and socioeconomic opportunity gaps.

After graduating from Yale Law School and Duke University magna cum laude, Samantha began her career as an attorney at Simpson Thacher & Bartlett LLP, where she worked on landmark school equity litigation to close the public school spending gaps that disproportionately impact students of color and practiced commercial litigation.

Born and raised in Brooklyn, Samantha lives in Bed Stuy with her husband and two children, Stokely and Evers. She is a Pahara Fellow and serves as a board and advisory member for a number of organizations dedicated to racial and economic justice, including the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities and The Highland Project.

Cid Wilson was named President & Chief Executive Officer of the Hispanic Association on Corporate Responsibility (HACR) in July 2014, where he manages a growing staff of talented, dedicated professionals. He leverages more than 30 years of corporate finance and Wall Street equity research experience to work closely with corporations, their CEOs and board directors, and chief diversity officers to increase the representation of Hispanics at all levels in Corporate America. In addition, he directs programs and initiatives aimed at encouraging Fortune 500 companies to increase Hispanic inclusion in the areas of employment, procurement, philanthropy, and governance.

Wilson is considered as one of the foremost national leaders on the topic of executive-level diversity, equity, and inclusion in Corporate America. He is a featured speaker at numerous annual convenings in the U.S. and globally as well as a source on the topics of diversity and inclusion on corporate boards, C-suite pipelines, CEO ascension, corporate acculturation, strategic board service, and inclusion empowerment.

Susan B. Wilson PhD MBA is a licensed clinical psychologist with a multifaceted career in education, healthcare administration, consulting, clinical and media work. Wilson currently serves as the Vice Chancellor of the Division of Diversity and Inclusion. In this chief diversity officer role, she leads a diversity organizational development strategy including diversity and inclusion policies and programs for students, faculty, and staff and community.

Wilson has over twenty years of diversity-related experience. She previously served as Associate Dean for Diversity and Community Partnership at UMKC School of Medicine. For the American Association of Medical Colleges (AAMC), Wilson was the Central Region’s representative for the Group on Diversity and Inclusion (GDI). She also developed a diversity training program for mid and upper management for the Central Region of the Federal Aviation Administration. During a time of racial tension, she was a consultant to four local school district superintendents to assess the diversity climate and offer training and recommendations. Wilson has also provided training and diversity consultation to many business and government organizations, and served on the Mayor’s Human Rights Commission.

Wilson attended the University of Pittsburgh, where she earned a B.S., M.S. and Ph.D. in clinical psychology and an M.B.A. from the Bloch School of Business at UMKC. Wilson has held leadership positions in several notable health and behavioral healthcare organizations in the Kansas City area, including Swope Health Services and St. Luke’s Health System. She has also served as a consulting psychologist to the National Football League and the Kansas City Chiefs and a host and contributor of a diversity-related radio magazine show for KCUR 89.3 FM, the Kansas City affiliate of NPR.

Wilson has contributed her time and skills to numerous civic and community endeavors, including Jackson County COMBAT Commission, Missouri Department of Mental Health Cultural Competency Committee, and the Statewide African American Mental Health Taskforce. She is a former member of the Healthcare Foundation of Greater Kansas City and is Chair of the Prime Health Board. Most recently, she was chosen by Jackson County Executive Frank White to serve on an advisory board to the Jackson County 1/8 cent Sales Tax for Children’s Service. Wilson is a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., and the Links, Inc., both public service organizations.
