Leveling Up: The Economic Impact of Generative AI and Emerging Technologies

This session aims to define what Generative AI is, highlight unique challenges of using generative AI in business particularly from a DEI lens, and deep dive into the economic advantages and potential disadvantages of incorporating or not incorporating AI in ongoing business operations. Tameka Alsop is Chief Administrative Officer at Moody’s Corporation and a member of the Executive Leadership Team. Ms. Alsop currently serves on the Trident American Dreams Advisory Board, she is a founding member of the Women’s Business Resource Group at Moody’s, and she’s the current global executive sponsor for Moody’s Veterans Business Resource Group. She is also a key contributor to various diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives at the company – this includes serving as executive sponsor for Moody’s CORE initiative. Ms. Alsop holds a B.A. from Pennsylvania State University and is a certified project management professional.

Kevin Anderson, co-founder and Managing Partner of GrowAbility Equity, has been investing in real estate since 2005. During that time, he initially focused on buy-and-hold rentals then transitioned to active multifamily investing/management and passive investing through Commercial Real Estate Syndications from multifamily to self-storage to mobile home communities to select service hotels. Kevin has implemented various cash-flowing, tax-saving financial strategies with real estate at the core over the last decade. This approach has substantially contributed to a 10X increase in net worth over the last 6 years, enabling he and his wife the opportunity to reach financial independence faster than planned, freeing them up to travel, spend time with friends and family, and supporting their church generously, including providing college scholarships.
Prior to transitioning full-time to real estate, Kevin spent 7 years running a college financial planning firm. Before that, Kevin spent 20 years in Corporate America, leading marketing teams and managing multi-million dollar P&Ls to drive market share and business success in categories from yogurt to cereal to OTC pharmaceuticals to banking services. Kevin graduated Summa Cum Laude with a B.S. Degree in Accounting from Florida A&M University and he has an MBA in Marketing from the Wharton School of Business.

Phyllis Anderson is an Independent Board Director serving on the board of Andersen Corporation, the largest window and door manufacturer in North America. Phyllis brings a highly successful career culminating as a Chief Marketing Officer, including P&L responsibility at Nabisco Brands, Inc. and The Pillsbury Company. Phyllis’s career has spanned 25+ years of marketing/business leadership in Fortune 50 companies in consumer packaged goods, energy, and healthcare industries, encompassing B2B, B2C, and B2B2C. This diverse experience is reflected in her unique ability to understand both the consumer and business perspectives.
Phyllis was most recently the Senior Vice President/Chief Marketing Officer, and member of the Executive Team for Sentara Healthcare, a not-for-profit Top 15 health system. With oversight of seventy team members, Phyllis was responsible for the marketing and corporate communications functions, including brand development, corporate strategy, creative services, digital strategy, division marketing, public relations, government relations and the Sentara Foundation. Her previous positions include Senior Vice President/Chief Marketing Officer, and member of the Executive Team for Express Scripts, a $104B, Fortune 20 company; Vice President of Marketing for Humana, a $77B insurer, Vice President; Strategic Initiatives for the $120B Bank of America and Director, Market and Brand Strategy for Duke Energy Corporation. Phyllis began her professional career with The Pillsbury Company and Nabisco Brands, Inc., with a focus on consumer marketing.

Creating a Legacy: Wealth Building Strategies for Post Corporate Life

Antonia Dean is a brand strategist and storyteller who specializes in turning something good into something great. A lawyer by training and a risk-taker by birth, Antonia turned down a lucrative career in corporate law after graduating from Harvard Law School to work in the cosmetics industry instead. Working her way up from unpaid intern to Director of Marketing & Strategy, Antonia helped build some of today’s most well known brands, including Calvin Klein Fragrance, Simply Vera Vera Wang, Michael Kors Beauty and Flirt Cosmetics to name a few. Currently, Antonia is taking the skills she learned in building those brands to help recent college grads build their own businesses as Chief Brand Officer for Venture for America, a two-year startup fellowship program. In this role, Antonia leads both the fundraising and marketing teams at VFA, creating compelling brand stories and crafting programs and activations with national corporate partners.

Antonia currently lives in Philadelphia with her husband, two sons, and a five pound Yorkshire Terrier named Furious who in no way lives up to his name.

Michael Eric Dyson is a man of many talents. As a professor, he has taught at some of the most prestigious universities in the nation, including Princeton, Brown, and Georgetown. He is currently a Distinguished University Professor at Vanderbilt University, where he holds positions in both the College of Arts & Science and The Divinity School.

In addition to his academic pursuits, Dyson is also a gifted writer and media personality. He has authored over 25 books, including seven New York Times bestsellers, and has won numerous awards for his literary contributions, including the 2020 Langston Hughes Medal and two NAACP Image Awards.

Dyson’s work spans a wide range of topics, including civil rights, hip-hop, Black culture, and politics. He has written bestselling books on figures such as Martin Luther King Jr., Malcolm X, 2Pac, Marvin Gaye, Bill Cosby, and Barack Obama. His most recent book, Long Time Coming: Reckoning with Race in America, has been described as a “searing cry for racial justice” and a “sweeping overview of racism in America.”

Nevada Attorney General Aaron D. Ford was sworn in as Nevada’s 34th attorney general in 2019 and is the first African American to take statewide constitutional office. Before his election, AG Ford served as the Majority Leader of the Nevada State Senate. He previously served as the Minority Leader, Assistant Majority Whip, chair of the Senate Committee on Natural Resources, vice chair of the Senate Committee on Education, and member of the Judiciary Committee. Before beginning his legal career, AG Ford served as a public school math teacher. He later attended law school and went on to clerk for the Honorable Denise Page Hood of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan, as well as the Honorable Johnnie B. Rawlinson of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. He spent many years in private practice, including as a Partner at Snell & Wilmer LLP and later as Partner at Eglet Prince, both in Las Vegas. AG Ford earned his B.A. from Texas A&M University in Interdisciplinary Studies and then earned his M.A. in International Education from George Washington University. He also earned an M.A. in Educational Administration, as well as his law degree and Ph.D. in Educational Administration from The Ohio State University.

Andrea is a Senior Leader in Accenture’s Global Data & AI Practice. She leads a practice where she focuses on bringing next generation AI innovations and solutions for CFOs and finance functions to Accenture clients around the world across multiple industries.

Andrea has 25 years of experience in the consulting industry helping her clients address increasingly complex business issues and leveraging data and AI to deliver successful results. She is currently working with several CFOs in banking, life sciences, consumer goods, healthcare and high-tech to innovate and scale AI across their enterprises. In addition to leading a global practice of data scientists and data engineers, Andrea is also responsible for driving inorganic growth having led the acquisition and integration efforts of several AI/ML companies.

Andrea holds a bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering from Southern University and earned an MBA in strategic management and consulting from the MIT Sloan School of Management

Dwayne Grady, is a Partner and Wealth Advisor with Prime Capital Investment Advisors in Bethesda, MD. Working with clients in over 32 states, Dwayne is responsible for providing knowledge in a variety of wealth management areas to clients. He meets with clients to understand their financial goals and concerns, and creates tailored plans to help them gain financial control. Specializing in working with individuals in transition (retirement, divorce), Dwayne applies his expertise to solve complicated problems.
Prior to joining Prime Capital Investment Advisors, Dwayne was Co-Head of Office with Goldman Sachs Personal Financial Management.
Dwayne is a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ (CFP®) and Chartered Financial Consultant (ChFC®) and Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU®) with concentrations in investment management, retirement planning, risk management and estate planning. Dwayne earned his MBA and Bachelor in Business Administration from Florida A&M University. Additionally, he is a Scuba Diving Instructor, avid traveler and diver.

Shirell A. Gross, Esq. CLC has built a successful career as a senior executive and attorney at Fortune 500 companies. She is VP and Chief Counsel for Global Supply Chain, Operations and Logistics and Head of the US Contract Organization for Medtronic, where she leads an organization responsible for providing legal support to Medtronic’s Executive Vice-President and Head of global manufacturing, supply chain, sourcing, operations, trade, real estate, transportation warehouse, and logistics. She is also responsible for US commercial sales, and government and technology agreements across the enterprise.

Previously, she was a vice-president, division counsel, and head of law for two Bayer AG global businesses, Diabetes and Radiology supporting medical devices and pharmaceutical products. In between these two roles, Shirell took a two-year hiatus from the law, became a certified life coach, and started a business Measure of Ambition LLC d/b/a ShirellSpeaks. She provides keynote speeches, workshops, life, executive coaching, and empowerment events. She remains passionate about the work of bringing along the next generation of diverse business leaders and in particular women of color emerging leaders.

She has received numerous professional recognitions including the 2022 Policy Trailblazer Award from Executive Women of New Jersey, Savoy magazine as one of the Most Influential Black Lawyers in America, Black Doctors.org’s Top Blacks in Healthcare, Hofstra University School of Law’s Outstanding Women in Law, and YWCA as a Women of Influence. She also held roles at Quest Diagnostics, Aaronson Rappaport Feinstein, and Deutsch and started her career as an Assistant District Attorney in Bronx, NY.

She is active in the community and passionate about young people, just recently completed a term on the National Executive Board of Jack and Jill of America Inc. the largest African American family organization with over 12,000 members and 20,000 children. As the National Program Director, she was responsible for executing its national and chapter programming and community service initiatives and served as a trustee of the Jack and Jill of America Foundation. She is also a member of the North Manhattan Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc. She is also a board member of Executive Women of New Jersey and a Member of Women Business Leaders.

Arlan Hamilton, founder at Backstage Capital and HireRunner.co, is a serial entrepreneur, author, and prolific speaker.

She founded Backstage Capital in 2015 to invest in founders who are people of color, women and/or LGBTQ. Since its founding, Backstage has raised nearly $30 million and invested in 200 startups led by underestimated founders. Arlan is also the founder of HireRunner.co, a startup that connects outstanding employee talent with inclusive companies.

Arlan published her book, It’s About Damn Time, in 2020, detailing her journey from homelessness to venture capital trailblazer. Arlan also hosts the popular podcast “Your First Million”, and in 2018, was the first non-celebrity Black woman to grace the cover of Fast Company magazine. Arlan’s latest book, Your First Million: Why You Don’t Have To Be Born Into A Legacy Of Wealth To Leave One Behind shows how anyone—no matter what they look like or how much money they have—can tap into all the new tools they already have at their disposal to get their million-dollar idea off the ground.

Arlan is a big proponent of paying it forward and supporting other underestimated people in the tech industry and beyond. She’s a limited partner in 27 funds led by emerging, underestimated managers, and she and her mother, Mrs. Earline Butler-Sims, have established scholarship programs for Black students at Oxford University, HBCU Dillard University, and Harvard Law.

Michael C. Hyter is President and CEO of The Executive Leadership Council (ELC), the preeminent membership organization for Black CEOs, board directors, and the most senior Black executives at Fortune 1000, Global 500 and equivalent companies. He leads the organization’s efforts to increase the number of global Black executives in C-Suites, on corporate boards, and in global enterprises.

An accomplished senior executive, leadership consultant, author and thought leader, Hyter is widely known for his success in developing enterprise leaders and their next generation successors. For more than 25 years, Hyter has served as a trusted advisor to senior leaders in a variety of industries. He brings a wealth of leadership experience to The ELC in the areas of CEO succession, chief executive and executive to leadership development, and strategic Diversity and Inclusion consulting.

Author, innovator, futurist, teacher, composer and former radio and television commentator, Nat Irvin, II, serves as Assistant Dean of Thought Leadership and Civic Engagement, and Woodrow M. Strickler Chair, Professor of Management Practice, University of Louisville, College of Business. He teaches graduate courses in the future of management, leadership, and team dynamics.
He serves as futurist for the National Black MBA Association and the Executive Leadership Council (ELC). He most recently authored “The Chase for 2042” the concluding chapter for “Celebrating a Legacy, Empowering the Future,” The National Black MBA Association, 2015. He is the recipient of the H. Naylor Fitzhugh Award of Relevance, awarded by National Black MBA, which recognizes exceptional contributions and a demonstrated involvement in various businesses, educational and professional organizations within the African American community. In 2016, he received the Faculty Service Award, College of Business, University of Louisville. Irvin is a former member of the Board of Directors of the World Future Society, and chaired the Annual Conference, Washington, DC, 2008.
Irvin also serves as a musical consultant and the Chief Learning Officer for Janelle Monáe and the Wondaland Arts Society, a two time Grammy nominated artistic group based in Atlanta, Ga. He is the original composer of “Ba Bop Bye Ya,” which appeared on the Grammy nominated and highly acclaimed album “Archandroid” featuring Janelle Monáe with music composed by Nate Rocket Wonder and Roman GianArthur. On Janelle Monáe’s highly acclaimed album “The Electric Lady,” Irvin plays classical guitar on the track “Look Into My Eyes.”
Dr. Irvin is a graduate of the University of South Carolina with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Philosophy and a Master’s degree in Media Arts. An accomplished composer, he also holds a Doctorate of Musical Arts degree in Music Composition from the University of North Texas and is a graduate of the Institute for Educational Management, Harvard University Graduate School of Education.Married to Chandra Goforth Irvin, the couple has three adult children.

Melonie Johnson is the President and Chief Operating Officer (COO) of MGM National Harbor. In her leadership role, Johnson provides strategic direction and oversees daily operations of the property. She is committed to supporting the local Prince George’s County community and is dedicated to fostering an engaged and diverse local workforce.
A graduate of the University of New Orleans with a bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Melonie’s gaming and hospitality career spans nearly 25 years, during which she held key leadership positions at major properties throughout the United States. Johnson has been with MGM Resorts since 2015, most recently serving as President & COO of Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa prior to her return to MGM National Harbor in 2022, which she had led from December 2017 through May 2020. Before making her move to the East Coast, Johnson started her MGM Resorts career with Gold Strike Casino Resort in Mississippi. She has consistently worked to nurture a service-oriented employee culture and developed strategic plans that ensured properties met both their short and long-term goals.
Melonie’s decades of leadership experience at regional gaming properties -- along with her financial expertise and strategic thinking -- has served her well in a number of high-profile gaming positions ncluding, Assistant General Manager at Hollywood Casino at Charles Town Races in West Virginia, CFO/Interim General Manager at Hollywood Casino Aurora in Illinois and as Regional Vice President of Operations and Vice President of Finance for Caesars Entertainment Corporation, among other roles.

Melonie and her husband Mark share six children and six grandchildren.

Valerie Mosley created Valmo Ventures to advise and invest in companies that add value both to investors and society. She currently serves on the board of Eaton Vance’s family of mutual funds, Dynex, a NYSE mortgage REIT, and Progress Investment Management Company, a privately held Fund of Funds. She serves on New York State’s Common Retirement Pension Fund Investment Advisory Committee and the UAW Retiree Medical Benefits Trust’s Investment Risk Advisory Committee.

Valerie was Senior Vice President, Partner, Portfolio Manager and Investment Strategist at Wellington Management Company, LLP, a $900 billion global money management firm. During her 20-year tenure at the firm, Valerie directly managed billions for clients. Valerie also chaired the firm’s Industry Strategy Group, comprised of thought leaders from across the firm charged with taking a long-term perspective to identify headwinds and tailwinds impacting industries. As a member of several investment strategy groups, Valerie helped established investment parameters to which team portfolio managers adhered.

Valerie began her career at Chase Manhattan Bank, where she was a Commercial Lending Officer for financial institutions (1982 – 1984). After graduate school, she worked in institutional corporate bond sales at Kidder Peabody (1986 – 1990). Prior to joining Wellington Management in 1992, she was Chief Investment Officer at P.G. Corbin Asset Management (1990 – 1992).

Valerie is on the board of New Profit, a philanthropic venture firm and a founding member of the American Red Cross of Massachusetts Bay Tiffany Circle Society of Women Leaders. As part of her mission to help others grow their self-worth and net worth, Valerie created financial fluency courses for high school teachers and students, and speaks about the “Parallels of Managing Money and Life”.

Valerie graduated in 1982 with a BA in History from Duke, where she served as President and Vice President of the student body. She received her MBA from the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania in 1986 and served as President of The Wharton Club of Atlanta. Valerie was named UK’s Powerlist International Person of the Year 2017, and one of the 50 Most Powerful Women in Business and one of the Top 75 African Americans on Wall Street by Black Enterprise Magazine.

D. Keith Pigues is CEO and Founder of Luminas. He is a native of Memphis, TN and currently lives in Research Triangle Park, NC. During his corporate, academic, entrepreneurial and consulting career, he has lived in Atlanta, Seattle, Chicago, Los Angeles, St. Louis, Houston and Manchester (U.K.).

Keith has experience as a C-suite executive leading global marketing, strategy and sales at Fortune 100 and mid-market private equity backed firms in a range of industries, including information technology, healthcare, agriculture biotechnology, automotive, commercial printing and building products. He is a four-time Chief Marketing Officer and has held executive leadership positions at CEMEX, RR Donnelley, ADP, Honeywell International and Ply Gem Industries. He served as an adjunct professor of leadership in the MBA program at the University of North Carolina’s Kenan-Flagler Business School, as well as a tenured professor of management and business school dean at North Carolina Central University. He is a frequently-requested speaker and co-author of Winning with Customers: A Playbook for B2B. He advises corporate and non-profit senior leaders and boards on growth strategies and talent development.

Angela Rye is a 2019 recipient of an Honorary Doctorate from the historic HBCU, Wiley College. She is the Principal and CEO of IMPACT Strategies, a political advocacy, social impact, and racial equity firm based in Washington, DC where she creates strategic partnerships and coalitions with Capitol Hill, third party organizations, and influencers to ensure societal change.

She served as the Executive Director and General Counsel to the Congressional Black Caucus for the 112th Congress. She also served as the Senior Policy Advisor and Counsel for the House Committee on Homeland Security for four years. With more than 15 years of political strategy and social responsibility experience, Angela has worked with every branch of government—on the municipal, state, and federal levels.

She has also developed award-winning strategic partnerships between our nation’s most well known civil and human rights organizations for corporate and government partners. Jeff is a retired Senior Executive for ExxonMobil's Fuels and Lubricants Company, Investor, active Board Director and community activist. He received his BA degree in Public Relations and Business from Whitworth University and received his MA degree in Education from Whitworth University. He began his career with Mobil Oil in Los Angeles, California after spending 2 years in Education upon completing his graduate work.
Since that time, he has held various senior level and external Board positions. At ExxonMobil, his career experiences were in Operations, Supply, Marketing, Sales and Human Resources. His assignments have been in California, New Jersey, Virginia, Michigan, Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, Illinois, New York, Texas and Asia Pacific
(Singapore, Japan). During his tenure with Mobil and ExxonMobil, Jeff has been in numerous leadership positions including Supply Manager, Fuels Marketing Development Manager, New York District Sales Manager, US Industrial Lubricants Sales Manager, Asia Pacific Sales Manager, Global Industrial Marketing Manager, Americas Distributor Business Manager and was appointed to lead the Global Learning and Professional Development function for the Fuels and Lubricants Marketing Company. During his last assignment, Jeff was responsible for developing leadership & professional development strategies for recruiting, learning, training and Inclusion and Diversity for the Fuels and Lubricants Marketing Company.
Jeff has been an active mentor in the ExxonMobil organization and is currently a member of the Executive Leadership Council (ELC), Board member of the Executive Leadership Council, and a current Board Member of RT Park Technology Company and Chairs the Finance Committee for the RT Park Board and previously a member of the Northern Virginia Urban League’s Board of Directors. Most recently he was selected as one of the most influential Back Executives.
